Eclectic Collection of Estates Worldwide

Franz Bergman, an Austrian entrepreneur best known for his Viennese foundry, is often mistaken as a sculptor. However, he was rather the owner of several of these production spaces and director of real sculptors and artisans. The productions of his foundries were primarily bronze works depicting erotic figures, animals, Orientalist scenes, and mythological creatures. In the upcoming Eclectic Collection of Estates Worldwide auction, presented by Akiba Antiques, one of Bergman’s products—a bronze lamp—will be available. The cold painted lamp resembles a Mosque, in which a man can be seen praying.

This auction also displays work invoking the classical style of Jean-Antoine Houdon. Featured is a bronze and wood clock set. According to Britannica, Houdon’s works reflect the 18th-century Rococo style of sculpture. Along with these items, bidders can also find an 18th-century French giltwood mirror and a wooden mirror console from the 19th century.
