Eidgenössisches Schützenfest Sterling Chalice

For our upcoming September 21st auction, we have this exquisite chalice from the annual Eidgenössisches Schützenfest, a marksmanship competition in Switzerland. This is indeed a “shooting cup” or a medal given to the winner of the important national competition.

DESCRIPTION: A sterling chalice from the Eidgenössisches Schützenfest in Zurich, 1872. Features an embossed figure leaning on a crossbow along with embossed banner backed by two crossed rifles. Finished with hand chased scrolling foliage motif decoration. Marked with maker’s mark of “A. Fries” a Swiss Silversmith, and embossed:”Eidgenössisches Schützenfest in Zurich 1872″
