Signed Surrealist Works Lead Akiba Antiques’ August Auction

Published August 17th, 2021 by Akiba Galleries

Sublime designs and Surrealist artists take the lead in Akiba Antiques‘ upcoming August auction. A stainless steel sculpture by Ernest Trova is among the auction’s top lots. Its mechanical appendages can be adjusted with a key. It also comes with an artist book. Trova was a leading figure in the American Surrealist and Pop Art scene in the 1960s and 70s. His Falling Man sculpture series presents a standardized representation of modern humanity.

Among decorative art, a Jaeger LeCoultre Atmos Classique clock is notable. Jean-Léon Reutter invented the clock before the LeCoultre & Cie Manufacture fully developed it in 1928. The 20th-century clock has a rhodium-plated frame, perpetual movement, one barrel, and 15 jewels. A slight change in the ambient temperature is sufficient to power its mechanism for two days. A bronze Art Nouveau vase signed by the Viennese artist Heinrich Babka is also available in the sale. The vase depicts a nude figure talking to a pair of young boys. The upcoming auction includes more than 600 lots of sculptures, furniture, and antiques. Find the full catalog on LiveAuctioneers.
